Texas Hold'em is Reason Why Poker is Mucho Popular
A very recent news article from the Poker Gazette says Texas Hold'em is the prime reason why poker has become increasingly popular to online and offline gamers. In fact No LImit Texas Hold'em is now called the ""Cadillac of poker".
Probably not surprising since we all know that Hold'em is the most played poker game because beginners find its rules simple and it's fun to play while, the same time, learning new poker skills. Even celebrities got into poker because of Hold'em, thus Bravo Channel launched the Celebrity Poker Challenge.
Yesterday the GSN network announced a TV special pitting cagainst real poker pros, that should eat up a large portion of the ratings pie, no doubt about that.
Sometime ago I wondered if TV boosted pokers popularity or is it the other way around, that networks are simply riding on the game's new-found fame and gearing their programming toward it. Well, networks have been know to do that since the beginning of time.
But the WPT events did give audience a front seat. Those lipstick-size cameras allow the television audience to get in on the game with professional players and celebrities, like Ray Romano, Ben Affleck and Heather Graham, who are definitely making poker hot. The cameras show players’ pocket cards, so viewers can try to predict how they will play their hands and watch the game unfold.
TV brought poker into the mainstream, back in the days it was played in the back room or in big-time casinos.
And let's not forget the thousands of people who are now playing online. Many online gamers prefer Texas Hold'em, especially in play money tables.
There was an episode in CSI Las Vegas where Gary Dourdan's gambling-addicted character said: "Poker is not gambling. It's a game of odds and skills." I totally agree and it's the best reason I can think of as to why poker is so hugely popular, it's just like playing "chess". Only it's fun.
