Doyle Brunson Traded Basketball for a Four-of-a-kind Ace High

In any poker table, you will probably see Doyle Brunson if you someone placing stacks of chips on the table wearing a cowboy hat. That's the poker legend Doyle Brunson. However, Mr. Brunson is not only about poker, believe it or not, Doyle Brunson almost became an icon in shorts on an NBA basketball court.

Doyle Brunson was such an awesome athlete that he was actually scouted by the Los Angeles Lakers when the Tinseltown franchise was situated in Minneapolis.

It seemed that Doyle Brunson and basketball was meant to be together. He even had a distinctive first name that could rival that of a Shaq, a Kobe, a Magic or a Kareem.

Alas, Doyle Brunson never went pro.

Instead, this poker cowboy lit out of his small Texas hometown of Longworth and became a road gambler. Brunson began driving from town to town with other legendary poker icons of today like Thomas 'Amarillo Slim' Preston and Brian 'Sailor' Roberts in search for the next big poker payout.

Doyle Brunson and the game of poker quickly became a marriage that was almost synonymous to fate as Brunson began racking up wins after another in any poker table.

Brunson even has a hand named after him, 10-2. That was called a 'Doyle Brunson' because that was the final hand he played at the final table to win back-to-back World Series of Poker championships in 1976 and 1977.

Doyle Brunson could be the NBA Superstar that could have his name beside a Michael Jordan or a Larry Bird. However, Doyle Brunson chose poker and that probably was, and still is, the best hand he ever played.
