But let's focus on WSOP, why? because it was here that Ms. Duke gained her royal place in the world of poker. She bet and bluffed her way through the 2004 Tournament of Champions where she beat an all-male set of competitors. That included her brother and mentor, Howard Lederer, mind you dear poker followers.
Too bad she won't be playing at this years TOC, at least according to the Harrah's site. Then again the Championship Event is surely what she's focused on now. So if you're in Vegas in June or July, Ms. Duke will be in town for most of these months. If we're lucky, we might just get a good glimpse of her.
According to her own site, Ms. Duke will be playing in the WSOP No-Limit Hold'em events at these dates: June 3-15, and July 1-15 (assuming she gets to the final table, of course). We do hope she pops-up a the final table, not only for added spice to the game, but to kick some poker asses.
Nothing makes us geishas more delighted than witnessing girl power at its best. So to Ms. Duke, we raise our sake to your 2005 WSOP Championship bid!

It's being predicted that around 7,000 players will participate in the $10,000 buy-in, no-limit Texas Hold'em main event alone. The buy-ins for all 2005 WSOP events range from $1,000 to $10,000. Of course most of the final tables will be taped for all non-casino-goer poker fans to see via ESPN.
We all know by now that a certain Chris Moneymaker helped make poker extremely popular, when he won the finals in 2003 for a buy-in stake of $40 in an online satellite tournament. And last year Greg Raymer toppled 2576 players to win the $5 million first prize for, again, a $40 online tournament.
So if you don't have 10 grand you can still win a seat to the WSOP championship, provided that you're a confident and good player. This tournament has become a reachable ticket to fame and fortune for many amateur players. So if you haven't qualified yet there are a lot of online poker rooms offering chances to win a seat to the 2005 WSOP.
This year's championship tournament will last approximately 40 days and an estimated 10,000 players from all over the world will flock Las Vegas to compete in 30 different poker games. Winners of each event will be awarded a gold bracelet and first place cash prizes ranging from $500,000 to $10,000,000. That's a 'whola' of money.
So if there's anyone out there who thinks they have what it takes to be the next Moneymaker, Selzki says be brave and go forth to find your fortune. I, however, will be there serving sake and most probably cheer for y'all, wink-wink.

Not so long ago, Chris Moneymaker came out of nowhere to win the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) World Championship after gaining entry from a $39 buy-in satellite mini-tournament. Now there is this thing called the Moneymaker effect-- amateur poker players entering satellite tournaments to gain seats in the WSOP world championships.
WSOP officials admit this phenomenon helped make the tournament, and poker in general, a houselhold name. Plus allowing no-name poker players to share the limelight with already poker greats like TJ Cloutier, Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, etc.
One certain player infected by the Monemaker Effect was Henry Tran, winner of the 2005 Atlantic City Circuit Tournament. He decided toplay poker after watching Moneymaker in the 2003 WSOP championships, read some poker books to improve his moves, and played regularly with his co-workers to further develop his game. The next stop was Atlantic City and the rest is, as we say, poker history.
Far from causing dismay to professional poker players, some amateur players may have been "lucky" but luck won't always win you the acclaim. In the end you have to have the right skills and experience to become a genuine poker master.
But this is not to dismiss the amateur players' skills, by the way. Yet the fact that many amateur winners are still very far behind and nowhere near the number of wins that poker greats have collected speaks for itself. In the WSOP there are many events leading up to the World Championship where the World Champion is crowned. Each event has a winner and they are awarded WSOP bracelets as proof.
