Activision Chimes In On World Series of Poker
Activision, makers of the hit Tenchu series, not to mention the ever-popular WWF/WWE games on the PlayStation, unveils yet another game that will surely make any gamer grin. Activision unveiled the World Series of Poker Video Game.
The promising title speaks for itself, it promises to feature the most realistic experience any poker player will have in these WSOP tournaments.
The game will be available for the PlayStation 2, the PSP, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and the PC. The game promises to feature the image and likeness of poker professionals in the WSOP Tournaments.

''The World Series of Poker is the world's premiere poker event, drawing thousands of entrants and millions of viewers worldwide,'' said David Oxford of Activision, Inc.
''So it's a perfect fit to preview this exciting video game to participants of the WSOP Tournament where it will deliver to consumers the same excitement and authenticity of pulling up a chair at the WSOP table and competing against players of this year's WSOP Tournament,'' he added.
The WSOP Tournament will be held at Harrah's Rio Suites in Las Vegas. It is also the same location accurately simulated in the video game, giving it the real WSOP feel. ESPN has aired these World Series of Poker Tournaments seven times since it's debut in the network in 1994.

Sunglasses: The Key in Winning at Poker Tables?
Greg Raymer bought those green, lizard-eye sunglasses in Disney World, something that will turn out to be one of the most famous sunglasses in the world of poker. He bagged the $5 million in the World Series of Poker championship in 2004, yes, with the sunglasses on.
What's ironic is that it was supposed to be a joke.
''But the first time I put them on,'' Raymer explains, ''a guy kind of freaked out. 'What the hell's going on?' And he threw his hand away. I'd raised him, and while he was thinking, I put the glasses on. He jumped out of his chair when he saw them,'' he added.
''At that point, I said there's a little something to these glasses other than a one-time joke. I continued to wear them when I played a hand. I've always found there are several opponents who are very uncomfortable. They don't want to play against you when you're wearing glasses,'' Raymer said.
However, some people thinks otherwise.
''There's never been a winning high-stakes player, a good high-stakes player, that's ever worn sunglasses, so we don't even face that,'' Barry Greenstein said.
''It's just for tournament goofballs,'' he added.
Well, the fact of the matter is, poker players with sunglasses on always hold a psychological advantage over all the poker players in the table. Of course, you can't see someone's facial expression whenever he has sunglasses on and facial expressions play a very important role in poker. Now I know it, now you know it, that's why I have my own sunglasses always on.

AOL Joins Poker Mania
America Online (AOL), the leading online service in the US, has decided to join the online gaming mania with the signing of an exclusive deal with the World Series of Poker to create an online poker environment for card players.
AOL's poker action is free and will feature different online private poker rooms and tournaments. AOL will pick 12 winners who will get a seat to play in the 2006 or 2007 WSOP main event valued at $10,000.
If that's not enough to get players interested, one visitor to the poker room each year will get a free seat at the annual tournament of champions. There's only one requirement from the players, they have to be at least 21 years old to play and win the WSOP prize.
Harrah's Entertainment programming head, Jeffery Pollack, describes the new relationship as a perfect fit. The AOL service will provide news and behind-the-scenes reports of the various tournaments as well as "poker tutorials for people who want to learn more about the game."
Ralph Rivera, vice president and general manager of AOL games believes there is another key reason why this venture will pay off. "People don't have to be a monthly AOL subscriber to gain access to the poker rooms."
AOL is hoping this new feature will entice poker fans to populate its new sites.

First Time, First Win, Joseph Hachem Won First WSOP
Joseph Hachem won his very first bid at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). He bagged the $7.5 million capturing poker's biggest prize in what became the longest final table in the history of the WSOP.
Only six hands into the two-man showdown, Joseph Hachem disposed of Steven Dannenmann when he flopped a seven-high straight. As if a sign that the battle was over, the fans in attendance began to chant, ''Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!''
When it was all said and done, Hachem's only response was, ''Thank you, America.''
The Australian's victory was so astonishing that one would never believe he was nursing a short stack of chips for almost 12 hours straight. Hachem never gave up. After 14 hours of grueling poker coming into the final round of what has been a tug-of-war between two poker giants refusing to give in to each other, Hachem dropped a bomb, bringing this poker marathon to a decisive end.
The final play unfolded with Dannenmann raising before the flop. Hachem calls before the dealer revealed a six-five-four flop. Hachem checked, Dannenmann raised the pot, betting another $700,000.
Hachem then raised to $1.7 million, as the turn, or fourth card, was revealed to be an ace and Hachem, as if the $1.7 million wasn't enough, threw in another $2 million into the pot.
Dannenmann countered by raising $5 million. Instantaneously, Hachem went all-in with more than $30 million. Hachem could either make or break with the move and as it turns out, Australian Joseph Hachem won his very first WSOP.

Doyle Brunson Traded Basketball for a Four-of-a-kind Ace High
In any poker table, you will probably see Doyle Brunson if you someone placing stacks of chips on the table wearing a cowboy hat. That's the poker legend Doyle Brunson. However, Mr. Brunson is not only about poker, believe it or not, Doyle Brunson almost became an icon in shorts on an NBA basketball court.
Doyle Brunson was such an awesome athlete that he was actually scouted by the Los Angeles Lakers when the Tinseltown franchise was situated in Minneapolis.
It seemed that Doyle Brunson and basketball was meant to be together. He even had a distinctive first name that could rival that of a Shaq, a Kobe, a Magic or a Kareem.
Alas, Doyle Brunson never went pro.
Instead, this poker cowboy lit out of his small Texas hometown of Longworth and became a road gambler. Brunson began driving from town to town with other legendary poker icons of today like Thomas 'Amarillo Slim' Preston and Brian 'Sailor' Roberts in search for the next big poker payout.
Doyle Brunson and the game of poker quickly became a marriage that was almost synonymous to fate as Brunson began racking up wins after another in any poker table.
Brunson even has a hand named after him, 10-2. That was called a 'Doyle Brunson' because that was the final hand he played at the final table to win back-to-back World Series of Poker championships in 1976 and 1977.
Doyle Brunson could be the NBA Superstar that could have his name beside a Michael Jordan or a Larry Bird. However, Doyle Brunson chose poker and that probably was, and still is, the best hand he ever played.
