Virgin Poker Launches in London
Virgin Poker is now a part of the Boss Media poker network and was finally launched yesterday, November 24, in London. The online poker site was initially soft launched in July of 2004 but this latest offering sees the poker site in a brand new perspective.
Almost every aspect of the website has been redesigned to provide additional features, as well as a depth of content suitable for the current marketplace.
Virgin Poker, under the company Virgin Games, is being planned to be aggressively marketed in the first quarter of 2006. The site itself has a number of tricks up its sleeve, including brilliant tournament opportunities including 'The Big Three', where a winner walks away with entry into the three biggest land-based poker tournaments on the planet.
Another thing that can draw attention for Virgin Poker will be its focus on customer support and retention schemes. In the first six months of operation, Virgin Poker will be launching a market-leading loyalty program and a platform that nurtures the online poker community.
''Virgin Poker will use the resources of sister companies throughout the Virgin Group to add new value to our players' experience. We will be able to offer a loyalty scheme similar to that found at the Virgin Casino that allows players to earn Virgin Atlantic points whenever they play,'' says CEO of Virgin Games, Simon Burridge.
Furthermore, Virgin Poker will be trying to entice would-be players to their new service by tapping into the more entertaining aspects of poker than just the purely monetary allure of the game. Burridge adds, ''Our message is clear; it's not just about winning money, it's about creating a fun, social environment where poker can be enjoyed.'

Titan Poker Ranks the Best from the Rest of Poker
New with poker? Titan Poker let's any novice poker player get themselves in the thick of things instantaneously in the poker table as it ranks all possible poker hands from the lowest to the highest. Now you can be the best, just like the giant of poker, Titan Poker.
Highest Card
If you and your opponents do not have anything on the flop, then you can play with the highest card you have in your hand.
One Pair
Two cards of the same rank. In case you and your opponent both have pairs, the highest pair wins. When more than one hand has a pair of the same rank, the hand with the highest card outside the pair wins.
Two Pair
Any two cards of one rank together with two cards of another rank. When more than one hand has two pairs of the same rank, the hand with the highest card outside the paired cards wins.
Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank. This is also called a 'set'.
Straight
Five cards in sequence. When more than one straight is competing, the one with the highest card wins. An ace can be taken as either high or low but not both high and low in the same hand.
Flush
Five cards of the same suit. When more than one flush is competing, the one with the highest card wins.
Full House
Three cards of one rank together with two cards of another rank. When more than one full house is competing, the one with the highest ranking group of three wins.
Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same rank. Suit is irrelevant.
Straight Flush
Straight with all five cards of the same suit.
Royal Flush
Straight flush from 10 to the ace. This is as good as it gets baby and this hand is virtually unbeatable in poker.

Woman Poker Magazine & Titan Poker's $1,000 Freerolls
A new poker magazine launched in April has helped put women poker players in the spotlight they deserve.
Aptly called Woman Poker Player, it is the only lifestyle magazine dedicated to women players. The publication has since enjoyed a supportive customer base, which has sent circulations to double.
Now, to give thanks to its loyal readers, Woman Poker Player is offering a series of $1,000 freerolls.
The first tournament was held on Friday, November 25, 2005 at Titan Poker's site, the free roll is open to all players who sign up and participate in the discussions on the Woman Poker Player forums.
Not only do women players get a great chance to win some cool cash, but at no cost to enter, this is a chance for those less-experienced women players to get a chance to play in a well-paying tournament without risking their hard-earned money.
According to WPM's statistics, over 25 percent of all players online are women and with more women playing "live" with every new day, the presence of women at the poker table has dramatically increased over the last two years.
WPM's editor-in-chief is poker legend, Barbara Enright. You can grab a copy at Barnes and Noble, Chapters, and Hastings, and select newsstands and retail markets.

Royal Flush and Poker: Matthew Perry's New Set of Friends
Matthew Perry, known better as Chandler Bing in the hit TV comedy show, Friends, continues to struggle at the poker table but will keep on trying until he achieves poker supremacy.
Matthew Perry was knocked out in the very first round of Celebrity Poker Showdown's first show in 2004. He almost got through and win the 'gold chip' in his next try but was denied this time by Mekhi Phifer.
The actor admitted that he has problems with the way he plays his cards in poker because he hums to himself whenever he has a good hand.
''If I have good cards, I start humming 'Kansas' Dust in the Wind' and I'm just trying to get away from that', Perry said.
Born in Williamstown, Mass., and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Matthew Perry had his first taste of acting when he was in the seventh grade. He recalls, ''After I got my first laugh on stage, I was hooked.''At age 15 he moved to Los Angeles to live with his father, actor John Bennett Perry.
Matthew's interest in acting increased after he performed in several high-school stage productions. In addition to acting, he excelled at tennis, he was rated No. 17 nationally in the junior singles category, and he and his partner were ranked No. 3 in doubles competition. After his graduation, Perry had intended to enroll at the University of Southern California, but when he was offered a leading role on the television series 'Boys Will Be Boys,' he seized the opportunity to begin his chosen career.
Matthew Perry's other TV-series credits aside from 'Friends' include regular roles on 'Home Free' and 'Sydney' as well as a recurring part on 'Growing Pains.' He guest-starred on such series as 'Beverly Hills, 90210,' 'Who's the Boss?', 'The Tracey Ullman Show,' 'Empty Nest' and 'The John Larroquette Show.' It remains to be seen whether he can include the game of poker into his resume.

When Women Play Poker
Women, because of their desire for equality in today's society, have started drinking our beers and began driving our cars. Although still tolerable at first, there's still the usual beer on glasses and don't get me started about women drivers.
Nowadays, women took it to another level. Now, women have taken it to the next frontier. Holy moses! Women have started playing our poker.
There comes a time when playing poker doesn't just involve the guys anymore. Women like competition and money just as much as the next guy so don't be too surprised when a female comes along and decides to lay a can of whoop@$$ upon you and the boys. Even though I am the rookie of the bunch when it comes to poker I do know a thing or two about women.
And what happens to them when they spend most of their time in poker tables.
Winning and bluffing causes the brain to release an enzyme that causes an increase in the production of carbohydrates in the body, making a woman's belly rival that of any bartender's.
Oprah doesn't like women who play poker. Why? Oprah hates liars and poker players tend to bluff, or, lie if you will. You don't want someone as powerful as Oprah to hate you now don't you? If Oprah recommends a book, it becomes the #1 best-seller the next day. If Oprah drinks 'Juicy Juice', the stores will run out of stock in hours.
That's how powerful Oprah is.
Even Dr. Phil, Oprah's second-in-command, is powerful and he doesn't like women poker players. According to him, lying and gambling are two of the 13 telltale signs of serial murderers, that's why he stays his behind away from the poker table.
So there you have it, we can now conclude that a woman playing poker turns into a massive 400-pound giant serial killer who never gets mentioned by Oprah... ever. Nah... just kidding, I love women, but only the visually stimulating.
Kidding aside, here are just some of the women poker players who are taking over our tables.
Annie Duke, men underestimated her at the poker table, but that didn't stop her. There aren't many women in the poker world and she is undeniably one of the most popular female player today. Duke is the sister of the famed ''poker professor'' Howard Lederer and, incidentally, who taught her how to play. In 1994, her brother encouraged her to play full-time. Since then she has won a WSOP bracelet and more than half a million dollars in winnings.
Shannon Elizabeth is best known for her role as the lustrous Nadia on the 'American Pie' movie trilogy. Lately she's been visible on major poker tournament circuit sponsored by Bodog Poker.
Jennifer Tilly is the newest celebrity making waves in the women's poker circuit. She made history when she became the first Hollywood star to take home a World Series of Poker gold bracelet Ladies' No Limit Hold'em event. She then broke records again by winning the invitational 2005 WPT Ladies night. Her WPT win made her the first woman to win both the major WPT and WSOP women's events.

Dennis Rodman Puts His Defense to Good Use at the Poker Table
One of the original 'bad boys' of the Detroit Pistons, Dennis Rodman was known throughout his career in the NBA as an excellent defensive player. As one of the true 'bad boys' in the NBA when he was with the Detroit Pistons, Rodman, together with Bill Lambeer, made his mark as a defensive force which nobody can argue.
No one thought however that Rodman can put his defense to good use at the poker table as well.
When Dennis Rodman showed up for the Celebrity Poker Showdown, nobody thought Rodman,
dubbed as 'The Worm' in his NBA years, can play poker. Even Rodman himself never thought he can get to the championship table, even win one hand.
I even watched Rodman fold a three-of-a-kind at one point, proving that Dennis doesn't know squat about the game. However, as fate would have it, he beat Ryan Styles, Tony Hawk and Bobby Cannavale to take the game at the Celebrity Poer Showdown.
All of a sudden, Dennis Rodman became a good poker player. Then there was Mekhi Phifer in the championship table who ended Rodman's brief stint with poker, shifting him back to reality in the process.
Dennis Rodman, despite his accomplishments in Detroit, became a household name when he joined Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in 1991. He has fallen from grace lately after appearing in some god-awful movies like 'Double Team' and of course, after leaving the Chicago Bulls and then ultimately, the NBA.

World Poker Finals Day Two
Tuesday marked the official day two of the World Poker Finals at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino, even though it was the third day of action. The 239 survivors from Sunday and Monday combined into a single field, with the goal of playing down to the final three tables.
It's a long way from $16,800 to $500,000 in chips, but Bill Gazes can give you directions. Just make big calls and avoid bad beats, and you'll be there in no time. Gazes took out fellow professionals Kathy Liebert and Mark Seif on his way to the half million dollar mark. He was the first to reach this milestone, at a time when his nearest competitor had only half as
many chips. Gazes ran hot throughout the afternoon, building his chip stack over $600,000 before leveling off slightly.
Allen Cunningham had a strong day two as well. Eugene Ji, who had built up a stack of over $300,000, was Cunningham's whipping boy, doubling him up twice before bowing out in 37th place. The skilled and experienced Cunningham will begin day three in second place.
Day one chip leader Lyle Berman got off to a bit of a slow start, failing to accumulate many chips early. He did manage to keep pace, however, remaining in the top ten the entire day. Berman left himself in great position for day three by taking a $100,000+ pot from Loi Phan on the final hand of the day. Berman's strong finish bumped him up to third place overall with $562,000 in chips.
Day two was also the money day, separating the field into 120 "winners" and 119 "losers." Chip Jett was the unfortunate bubble boy, finishing 121st and receiving nothing but a round of applause from the other players.

Cheating in Poker?
Poker is a game that requires 'balls', or as legendary sports entertainment icon Mick Foley puts it, 'testicular fortitude', to come out on top with even the weakest of hands.
Impossible?
Some really good players can do it as they bully any player on the table they see not too comfortable and confident with the hand they are playing. However, as noble as this concept in playing poker is, there are still cheaters that get away with it.
All the more in the Internet.
Each Internet poker site has its own ways and means to sniff out cheaters and its not always tip-offs from their regular honest players. Often, cheaters are picked up by their winning habits. Some Internet poker sites regulars are good players, but often regular winnings might indicate a cheating player.
Other Internet poker site crime nets include looking at players' database records, monitoring the games 24/7, and game logs. Internet poker sites, like all other casinos and gaming sites keep game logs, which analysts scrutinize to pick up patterns. If there are irregularities, chances are there is a cheat online.
These are some of the awesome poker sites you can play on.
Sports Interaction Poker, for one, promises you unparalleled online poker experience. They have progressive tournaments that let you win up to $100,000 every day. It doesn't get any better than that baby!
If it's a party you're looking for, then you have to go with Party Poker. Party Poker is the world's largest online poker room, and you have to see it to believe it. Party Poker is a licensed and regulated site with prompt payouts, lots of games and limits. The party is already on in there, so you better crash and chime in with all the poker hoopla.
Last but not the least, probably the best sportsbook in the business, Bodog, certainly won't just stand idly by while today's poker generation gets their hands on some ace high and four-of-a-kind hands. Experience the thrill of online poker in the Bodog Poker Room. Once you have downloaded the software, cutting edge technology and a player friendly experience will be at your disposal. Top that with the world's best customer service and you have it all!
But whatever you do in these poker internet sites, don't cheat mmmkay?

eGaming Review Honors Poker Stars
eGaming Review Magazine has named
Poker Stars as
2005 Operator of the Year in the recently concluded
eGaming Awards for the online gambling industry held in London.
According to eGaming Review editor, Scott Longley, Poker Stars was chosen because the online poker room is "without question the online poker room to watch at the moment."
Most notable part of its success was in having a very visible list of champions to promote the room. Currently signed on to promote the site are World Series of Poker champions Joe Hachem (2005), Greg "Fossilman" Raymer (2004), and Chris Moneymaker (2003).
These champions not only give Poker Stars a tremendous visibility to fans of the game, they also give hope to those who aspire to be a champion. Both Raymer and Moneymaker won their seats to the WSOP through Poker Stars and Hachem admitted that he prepared for the tournament through his play on the site.
eGaming Review judges felt that despite not being the largest site out there, Poker Stars' performance was well above that of its competitors. Other key elements to its success are the online room's growth and its customer service.
Poker Stars was founded in 2001 and is now the world's largest poker tournament website, having recently passed the 3.5 million registered users milestone.

Being a Chris Ferguson in Poker
Chris Ferguson is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the premiere poker players in the world and one of the true icons of the game. Nicknamed 'Jesus' because of his trademark long hair and beard, Chris Ferguson just might consider himself a god, a poker god at that, and I don't mean that in a blasphemous way.
The year was 1999, when Ferguson got his PhD in Computer Science from UCLA. He was 36 then, spending almost half of his life in the institution. After 5 years as an undergrad and another 13 long years as a PhD candidate, he was told it was time to leave.
And so he did, reluctantly.
And a year later, Chris Ferguson found himself at the middle of a poker table, beating poker veteran TJ Cloutier to win the 2000 World Series of Poker.
Ferguson and the game of poker goes a long way. Before, Chris Ferguson was making $2/hr playing with friends every weekend in a nickel-dime game. Soon, they would make their first pilgrimage to Vegas, where Chris had only two losing trips in 22 visits.
He got interested in other things until 1989, when Chris discovered the IRC Poker Network. On IRC, hundreds of players from around the world gathered in a text-only chat room to play poker. There was no money involved, only ego. Chris had two goals then: The first was to never go broke, even for play money. The second was to be at the top of the tournament leader board. When Chris stopped playing on IRC in the mid-nineties, his name had been in the 1 or 2 position on the board consistently for a few years.
It was 1994 when Chris made the decision to really apply himself and his knowledge of game theory to poker, concentrating only on tournament play. He started off playing in the small tournaments in and around LA. Not wanting to play over his bankroll, he wouldn't enter a World Series event prior to 1995. In 1996 he won a satellite into the main event and has played every year since. In the next three years, Chris would have 12 money finishes, making the final table 7 of those times, but never finishing higher than 4th place.
Until 2000. The Championship Event was his second bracelet that year, following a $151,000 win in the 7-Card Stud Event. A well-rounded player, his next bracelet was in 2001 in Omaha Hi/Lo Split, followed by two more wins in 2003. Chris Ferguson, as we know it, quickly became one of poker's best, being a champion of the World Series of Poker surely helps that point.

A-Rod Just Wants To Play Poker
Alex Rodriguez, the all-star slugger playing for the highly-decorated baseball team of New York City, the New York Yankees, was cautioned by the Yankees organization that playing poker in illegal clubs may be detrimental for his image.
Well, considering the Yankees were booted out in these baseball wars just recently, what image is there left to protect anyway?
Nevertheless, A-Rod, according to a newspaper, was indeed forewarned by his team.
The Daily News reported that Alex Rodriguez has been attending games with professional poker player, Phil Hellmuth, in an underground club.
Reporters got to the Yankees organization and the Yankees official claimed that the team never got into a dialogue, or has brought up the topic of A-Rod attending such poker clubs for that matter, with the third baseman.
Alex Rodriguez' agent, Scott Boras, denied that the Yankees have spoken to his client about this situation.
''The Yankees have never addressed or spoken with me in regard to any off-field activities regarding Alex Rodriguez,'' Boras was quoted as saying in a published story.
'Playing in underground clubs is not illegal, however, it can be against the law to operate such establishments', as reported by the Daily News.
Well, there's only one thing to be assured though, poker certainly is an addictive game and basically anyone could get hooked by it.

Online Poker Is Growing - 888.com
The online poker industry is surviving all along and rising above the challenge, after PartyGaming's warning that business was slowing sending violent fluctuations in the stock market.
Online casino and poker room, 888.com, released a press release announcing a 56% increase in its online poker arm, Pacific Poker's overall 3rd quarter revenue. The PR also claims that the industry is growing as opposed to slowing down.
888's chief executive, John Anderson, said the economic forecast for the industry wasn't completely accurate."As we said to all the investors that asked that question, I thought that it was a company-specific issue and not an industry-specific issue, and I think that has been borne out to be correct."
888.com had a tremendous three months leading up to September 30, as it saw its revenue rise 56 percent to $70 million, while its poker room revenue's alone rose 178 percent to $29.5 million.

How To Win At Poker Tables
When being a good poker player, one must posses all three very important traits and that is determination, testicular fortitude and of course, a little luck wouldn't hurt.
Regardless of what strategy you bring in to the table, more often than not, some young, upstart rookie will burn you.
That's just the nature of the game.
So, is there really a strategy when playing poker? The answer to that is no. But what you can do is observe and play the game the poker table dictates. For example, a post-flop play would work since you are making opponents pay for drawing out.
If you get beat too often with premium hands, say pair of kings or a pair of jacks when raising 3-4 times the big blind, than you'll have to be happy with raising 5-6 times the big blind and winning the blinds.
This is assuming all your opponents are the same, which is hardly true. Some players are gamblers but some are not so you need to find out which ones have a lot of gamble in them and which ones are just playing it safe.
Once you do that, you'll be able to guess whether they will raise, call or fold even before they make their move.
You also have to check your own betting patterns. You don't want to be too predictable especially in poker as poker players see that instantaneously. Try limping with a big hand just to change up and see if that opponent falls to the trap you set-up.

Does Mark Seif Play Safe on Poker Tables?
Apparently, two bracelets from the World Series of Poker (WSOP) last year is not enough for Mark Seif. The wild and enigmatic Mark Seif will go for yet another bracelet this year and he will stop at nothing in accomplishing just that.
''Ever since I started playing poker, I have had a reputation as being wild, maniac, high-action kind of fish player, the kind of guy who is a nut job at the table,'' Seif says.
''Needless to say, that can be an important and beneficial aspect of my game if everyone thinks I'm totally off my rocker and out of control and on tilt and playing like a maniac if I can be secretly in control and
secretly be making rational decisions and doing things in my best interests that are designed to be a rope-a-dope, a la Muhammad Ali,'' he adds.
''I often try to display only my most angry and sort of frustrated emotions in an attempt to make my opponents think 'This guy's playing like a nut. My top pair is good.' And then we get all the chips in the middle, and they're looking at the stone-cold nuts, and they're thinking, 'What just happened?'''
A great strategy to say the least. But whenever he watches himself on the television, more often than not, he agrees with the lot of them.
''I'm always going, 'Why did I say that? How could I look like such an idiot? Why am I so brash?''' Seif admitted.
''Sometimes it looks bad, and sometimes I look bad and I sound bad, and I regret it later. In the end I know it's just competitiveness and my attempts to control the situation at hand. I have to cringe when I see it, but at the time, I know that I'm just trying to win,'' he concluded.
Certainly with two WSOP bracelets last year, Mark Seif is certainly having success because of his unorthodox style. Mark Seif, when you describe his poker game, is nothing close to being safe, I'll tell you that.
