Jeff is New King of Poker
NASCAR fans will have the chance to see one of the best racers in the business in Las Vegas, but he won't be behind the wheel of a stock car, although his position won't be without risk.
Jeff Gordon is co-hosting a grand poker tournament at Caesars Palace, along side the 2003 World Series of Poker champion Chris Moneymaker.Moneymaker was looking forward to the job, as well as facing the professional driver in the poker arena.
''I have had the privilege to work with Jeff and his team on a series of licensed products,'' said Moneymaker.
''And I was honored to be asked to co-host this world class No Limit Hold'em Tournament with him at Caesars,'' Moneymaker said.
''I'm looking forward to playing against the NASCAR champion, and have offered my personal contacts of celebrities and pros to play for such a worthy cause,'' he added.
The venue is The Jeff Gordon Foundation Poker Classic tournaments, played to support the official charity of the 2006 World Series of Poker and The Jeff Gordon Foundation.
Jeff Gordon always seems to be in the right place at the right time. His first ever NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series race was one of the most historic days in NASCAR. The 1992 season finale in Atlanta which featured his first start, Richard Petty's last race, and the best points battle ever as Alan Kulwicki took home the title.
More than that, he just has a knack for not being where the wreck is. He can have junk for a car and still find his way into contention for the win at the end of the day. Jeff Gordon is a force in NASCAR. And will continue to be even after he decides to hang up his helmet as he is now part car owner of the #48 team and driver Jimmie Johnson. Now the question remains whether the same can be said of Jeff Gordon at the poker table.

Playing Poker with the NBA
When you have Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony playing for you, that could mean you have a poker royal flush.
As part of its entree into the poker playing craze, the NBA has licensed caricatures of its biggest stars on playing cards. Team logos will appear on a hardwood poker chip carrying case, and the NBA logo is emblazoned on the chips themselves.
All Pro Deal, which makes both products, is selling the playing cards for about $10 and the chip set for $129.
The poker chip business has turned into a huge industry since television networks began broadcasting poker tournaments in recent years. Sales of chips alone grossed more than $500 million last year, according to Daniel Sustar, president and owner of Trademark Poker, one of the largest chip distributors in the country.
It's not clear whether the NBA will be able to make a dent in the marketplace. Many poker fans, who dream to be like the pros, often purchase chips endorsed by the professional poker players.
Phil Hellmuth has earned more than $100,000 in royalties from his chips, according to his agent Brian Balsbaugh.
The NBA might be trying to get a piece of the poker pie, but the poker industry is seeking a piece of the licensing market that is traditionally where the major sports leagues profit most.
Jerseys.
Balsbaugh said at least three poker video console games will be available this year and some of his clients already have their own hockey-style jerseys, which could hit major retailers soon. The jerseys have the player's name on the front and, instead of traditional numbers on the back, two cards representing the number. The jerseys retail for $149 and are available on the Internet.
''If the NBA can put Allen Iverson on cards, we're going to tread on their world and sell jerseys of our poker players,'' Balsbaugh said.
Player ranking in the poker card set is based on a statistical formula. Kevin Garnett is an ace, Tracy McGrady is a king, Yao Ming is a queen, LeBron James is a jack and Carmelo Anthony is a 10. Now that's what I call an ''All-Star Royal Flush.''

Paradise Poker's 2nd Millionaire
NASSAU, Bahamas, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ - Santino Sgambelluria arrived in the Bahamas a casual online poker player with hopes of winning the big one. The dream is now a reality for the family man and Naval Officer. On Sunday, he became only the second person to ever win $1 million in an online tournament at Paradise Poker's $1 million freeroll tournament.
After beating out nearly 4,000 players in an online tournament at Paradise Poker, the tournament was paused and the 10 finalists flown to Nassau, Bahamas, to play the final table face-to-face.
The live finale attracted such a large crowd, the organizers had to rope off the area to keep onlookers at bay. In the end, it came down to a showdown between Ryan Boyes, a utility worker from Atlanta, Georgia and Santino Sgambelluria, a U.S. Naval Officer originally from Guam, but stationed in Hawaii.
"The whole experience was unbelievable -- to win was even more unbelievable. It hasn't sunk in yet - I guess I won!" Sgambelluria said after the game.
When asked what he would be doing with the cash Sgambelluria responded, "Everyone played great and I am just happy to come out on top. I know that my family, my wife and 2 children, will be well taken care of. I plan to pay off some debts and invest the money wisely. This might be the beginning of a poker career - I still can't believe it."
Sgambelluria, entered the final hand as the chip leader with 10 million chips, Boyes had just a little over 2 million. Sgambelluria went all in with A8, Boyes called with A2. Both players were on their feet when the dealer turned the flop revealing KQ8 and giving Sgambelluria a pair of eights.
The turn card revealed a 2 which gave Boyes a smaller pair, and the river card was a 6 which didn't help Boyes. The players shook hands and the Million dollar freeroll was over. "The success of our second $1 million dollar freeroll tournament proves this contest is here to stay," said Bruce Stubbs, marketing manager, Paradise Poker. "The chance to win a million dollars for free is unheard of - even for a lottery. We had players on this final table who had never spent a dime at Paradise. We will continue to offer the no buy-in million dollar freeroll tournament to our players, and keep making millionaires at Paradise Poker."
"Sgambelluria maintained his dominance throughout the game with smart and gutsy play. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win his way into our next freeroll final or even play in the pro ranks in the near future." Stubbs added.
Final Standings:
Place Name & Pay-out
- 1st Santino Sgambelluri $1,000,000
- 3rd Shane Patreau $10,000
- 4th Stephen Folusewych $10,000
- 5th Alan McFarlane $10,000
- 9th Stephen Fiske $10,000

New Kings of Sports Betting
The Sportsbetting Group has a new set of owners. The board of World Gaming Plc has announced the acquisition of the Sportsbetting Group in a move that is forecast to increase the group's revenues and profitability.
Daniel Moran, CEO of World Gaming said, ''The acquisition of the Sportsbetting.com Group is a significant extension of the Group's World Gaming business.''
''The limited integration plus the strong proven growth makes this acquisition an ideal fit for continued organic and acquisitive growth of the Group,'' Moran added.
Funding for the deal includes a $40 million loan from Barclays Plc along with the previously announced placing of shares to raise 6 million. Barclays has also provided a revolving facility of up to $5 million for the acquisition.
Jamie Grant, Director of Barclays Leveraged Finance commented, ''The compelling business proposition and the enthusiasm of the management team ensures that World Gaming is now well placed to further leverage its business assets, and benefit from future market growth.''
Sportsbetting has one of the best online poker sites in the Internet today. You can now play poker with thousands of players from around the world from the comfort of home. Their poker software is user friendly and they provide exceptional service.
Of course, what good a poker site would be without Texas Holdem Poker? Texas Holdem is the most popular poker variant. It is a card game in which players with fully or partially-concealed cards make wagers into a communal pot during the course of a hand, after which the pot is awarded to the player or players with the best combination of cards.

Poker's Emulation of the Fairway
Although his personal tastes run more toward game fishing and skeet shooting, Lyle Berman names another sport as the one poker is most likely to emulate as it evolves, pro golf.
Berman, the man who effectively controls the World Poker Tour as the organization's executive chairman, sees some similarities between the fairways and the green baize, the roughs and the bluffs.
As a televised competitive event, ''Poker is still in its infancy,'' Berman said recently at the Gambler's Book Shop near downtown Las Vegas.
''Interest in poker will level off at some point, but we're still a long way from the time when that happens,'' Berman said.
''Even after it does level off, poker will continue to experience peaks and valleys in its popularity, the way golf does.''
Golf enjoyed a boom a generation or two ago driven by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, Berman pointed out, then had another surge in popularity when Tiger Woods emerged onto the scene. He expects high-level poker to behave much the same way.
''Poker as a spectator sport on television is here to stay,'' Berman said.
''When you think about it, watching Tiger hit a drive isn't much different from watching how Chip Reese or Gus Hansen plays ace-king. You have a similar set of circumstances, but with different possible outcomes each time,'' the executive chairman of the World Poker Tour said.

Titillating Poker Tables with Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly has been in the Hollywood spotlight for over twenty years, but the light on her became even brighter because she has become an attraction in the poker world too.
The Oscar nominee for the 1994 film 'Bullets Over Broadway' won the 'Ladies No Limit Texas Hold'em event at the 2005 World Series of Poker. This accomplishment makes her the first celebrity to win an event at the prestigious Las Vegas tournament.
Two months later she followed up this accomplishment by winning the third World Poker Tour
Ladies Invitational event at the Bicycle Casino. The first time most people saw Jennifer Tilly play poker was on the World Poker Tour television show, Hollywood Home Game.
She ended up finishing second to Ming Na, but gave a gallant effort. After the show aired, Jennifer has been smack dab in the middle of the poker community.Tilly met Phil 'the Unabomber' Laak in the midst of her newfound passion. They have been dating since. After winning her bracelet, she told one of the reporters that Phil taught her everything she knows about poker, through osmosis.'
She also said, ''This is better than an Oscar'' as she showed off her new bracelet to the media and spectators. To make things even sweeter, Phil celebrated her win with a second place finish of his own in the $2500 Pot Limit Holdem event.

Poker Terminology Becomes Obscene When Outside A Poker Table
Poker players use terminologies that are so technical, you can only use it on a poker table. However, these terminologies can also be used outside a poker game. Try to imagine using these phrases and talking about them on public places.
''I don't know what he had in his hole, but it was better than what I had.''
''Can we play Stud next? I'll even bring it in first!''
''I really stuck it to your wife a little bit ago, she couldn't get away from my flopped monster.''
''I thought I was good there, but what he had in his pocket was just too much for me.''
''The longer I sit here, the smaller my stack seems to get thanks to you guys.''
''This guy (dealer) is screwing me! I don't want to see another eight from him today!''
''He fell in love with his Jack in the hole.''
''He was basically begging me to suck out on him.''
''I shoved my whole stack in, and he was basically drooling.''
And finally...
''Feel the power of my pocket rockets!''

Operation: 'Kill Phil'
It's not about a samurai-slashing woman's wrath. It's only a new, non-violent, No Limit Texas Holdem poker instructional book.
Kill Phil is a tongue in cheek book from professional poker players Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson discussing strategies for playing against professionals on the tournament circuit today. The title comes from the predominance of the Phils -- Hellmuth, Ivey, Gordon, et. al. -- and their excellent approach to tournament poker.
There are four different levels of the "Kill Phil" strategy that range from the most basic of guides to a high level of intricacy, or as they call it the "Kill Phil Expert", which take into account stack size and opponent styles, among other things.
"Kill Phil" is a tremendous advocate for the "all-in" poker that many new players in the game seem to use, and with excellent results. The logic in the move is well explained by Rodman and Nelson when they say, "Early in tournaments, a "Phil" is particularly unwilling to risk his entire stack in an all-in confrontation unless he clearly has a big advantage."
The authors also warned that the "Kill Phil" strategies are not for the faint of heart. It is also not a strategy to use in a cash game setting (where stacks are normally well above the blind structure), but strictly for that of a tournament surroundings where the stacks are finite and there is a ramification for losing all your chips.
Phil Hellmuth lends his own thoughts by writing the foreword of the book. Guess that's a way of stamping his approval on this No Limit Hold'em strategy.

Are You A Sexy Poker Player?
While Internet poker room players find it difficult to choose between the range afforded to them, an online poker site came up with a tried-and-tested formula to attract male poker players.
The online poker room has packaged a number of poker room essentials with a promise of entertainment from some of the 'sexiest women on the poker circuit'.
According to the managing director of the said site, it is the 'sexiest poker room on the Internet', and offers players 'testosterone-fueled battles of nerves and wits.'
The challenge now is for the site to provide their female clients with equally thrilling, sexy poker room entertainment.
And on that note.
If you're a poker fan who appreciates the more salacious aspects of a live poker game, then you've probably played at live poker strip clubs. This interesting live poker variant is brought to strip poker fans via the constantly evolving technology inspired by the Internet.
Live poker strip clubs online function by creating web rings of consenting adult players, each off whom is in possession of a high-resolution web cam. Their images are beamed to each other and players watch as losing players remove articles of clothing to eventually play naked, the ultimate goal of liver poker strip clubs online.
Ain't that sweet?

Mike Tyson's Last Ace In A Turbulent Career Finds Three More In Poker
Once known as 'the baddest man on the planet', 'Iron' Mike Tyson is having his chances of ever resurrecting back from obscurity, grow slim everyday.
Once the youngest Heavyweight Champion of the World, Mike Tyson's reincarnation so to speak in today's boxing arena has been reduced to an ear-bitting, arm-wrenching thug, with the term, 'quitter', being added to his name after his recent fight.
However, as fate would have it, Mike Tyson once again found yet another opportunity to make
out a life from the miserable hole he found himself into.
Mike Tyson found another payday outside the squared circle, as the English businessman and the owner of Tyson's former Las Vegas estate, Dominic Marrocco.
The businessman payed $4 million for the said las Vegas estate last year and is now offering the property to the winner of a poker tournament yet to be named.
This is Mike Tyson's chance to win back a fraction of the life he once lived by entering this said tournament, provided he doesn't get disqualified from another one of his crazy antics.
Marrocco has had no shortage of suitors for this new endeavor as he has met with US television executives and is considering whether to run the event himself or sell the rights to a major broadcasting network.
''People might think I'm some kind of crazy English eccentric giving away Tyson's house, but contestants pay thousands of dollars each to enter high stakes poker tournaments, plus there are rights to the reality TV show. I have the chance to win the tournament, but if I don't, I will walk to my house next door, shut the door behind me, and have still made money,'' Marrocco said.
Mike Tyson nows that this is a good opportunity to have what was once his back. He may never get the Heavyweight Championship of the World back but at least he can return to his mansion and vacate his broken down, two-bedroom apartment in Phoenix, Arizona, through the poker table.

Taking Poker To The Extreme
Juha Helppi risked life and limb to make a bit of poker history, as he emerged from the briny deep off the coast of St. Kitts as the first InterPoker Extreme Poker Champion, having outwitted his opponents at 30 feet below sea level in the first ever underwater poker tournament.
Helppi made short work of his competitors, including seasoned tournament professionals Phil Laak and Kenna James, as well as Internet qualifier Louise H. from Denmark and InterPoker spokesperson Peter Marcus.
Snorkeling above, a host of tournament spectators silently watched the tournament, among them WSOP Champions Kathy Liebert and Todd Whiteles, and InterPoker representatives Mike de Halpert and Kristen Makin.
Also supporting her boyfriend 'The Unabomber' Phil Laak was WSOP Ladies Night Champion Jennifer Tilly. Situated next to a spectacular Caribbean reef, the tournament was also visited by several colorful fish and a curious and potentially dangerous stingray.
''I've been present at some of the most electric moments in poker history, but this one tops them all,'' said InterPoker spokesperson Peter Marcus.
''After Juha's amazing performance today, I challenge anyone to argue that poker is not a sport, and that Extreme Underwater Poker should not be admitted into the Olympic games,'' he added.
In one of the most dramatic moments of the tournament, Helppi eliminated both Laak and Kenna simultaneously, calling both of their all-in bets, sending the Unabomber and the Cowboy floating back to land. Eventually, only Peter Marcus and Juha Helppi remained. Marcus drew K-J offsuit, and Helppi 2-9 offsuit.
Running dangerously low on air both went all in, and the flop turned up Q-9-2, giving Helppi a pair of deuces. The Turn gave Helppi two pair with a nine, and the River supplied a King, eliminating Marcus and sending Juha Helppi into the record books as the first Extreme Poker Champion.
''I honestly thought that when his mask filled with water that I could take advantage of his broken concentration, but in the end he drew great hole cards and bet very wisely, and I give him credit for that,'' said Kenna James.
''Juha is one of the best poker players the Caribbean Sea has ever seen. Even though it hurts to lose in a historic tournament such as this, I'm glad Juha was able to claim the bracelet and become the first InterPoker Extreme Poker champ,'' James added.

Each Superstar is equipped with a unique strategy, ranging from nervous, cautious or calculated to clueless or aggressive.
As a result of these different behaviors, each Superstar will play differently. For example, a cautious Superstar will exhibit a much more conservative style of play, choosing to play it safe rather than take many risks. However, a clueless Superstar may demonstrate an unpredictable and erratic style of play based on confusion with the game, making him or her an equally dangerous player.
WWE No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker offers two modes of play, 'Training' and 'Tournament.' Training Mode is ideal for polishing and honing skills, as it does not feature any blinds or cash amounts. However, those feeling especially confident should opt for Tournament Mode action. Unlike Training, Tournament Mode allows players to select the small and big blind amount as well as their starting amounts of cash.
Once a Tournament begins, six Superstars will be seated around a WWE emblazoned poker table and will be eliminated, one by one, as their funds dwindle down to zero. The last remaining Superstar will be named the winner.
Frequently, upon each of their turns, the Superstars will display one of four amusing emotions; pleasure, anger, perplexity or calmness. The CPU controlled opponents will make use of these emotions in the hopes of psyching out or befuddling players into making mistakes or folding their hands. Players will also have the ability to make use of these emotions by pressing up, down, left or right on the D-pad in bluff attempts of their own.
WWE No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker can be played alone against the CPU or, utilizing the PSP's Ad-Hoc Wireless functionality, up to four players can join in for a fun game of poker amongst friends.

The Underground Poker Scene
Underground poker clubs are the new hot spots of New York City. Like finding a trendy back alley bar in L.A., being seen at a seedy card room is a rite of passage among today's celebrities.
Several high profile celebrities have been spotted playing poker around Manhattan's poker joints, including Alex Rodriguez, Phil Hellmuth, Tony Soprano Jr., Macaulay Culkin, and Hank Azaria.
''It is a place where they know they can just play and be themselves,'' said a Jeremy, a frequent patron of the Players' Club, one of the hottest poker dens in New York.
According to Jeremy, the media is only aware of a small percentage of the celebrities who frequent NYC card rooms. ''No one is going to bust out an autograph, you know, and ask for a signature. Poker here is intense, but the people are low key,'' Jeremy explained.
''We want people to respect our privacy and we in turn respected other people's privacy,'' he adds.
Authorities have already seized $100,000 in cash and arrested 39 employees of the Players' Club and the Play Station. While the employees may face as many as four years in prison, the poker players were checked against outstanding warrants and eventually released without being charged.
The Players' Club and the Play Station are two of the largest clubs in New York. However, cracking down on them had little effect on the underground poker scene. If anything, these well publicized raids only added to the poker scene's allure.
''This is a yuppie thing, people having fun, not degenerate gamblers,'' said one police source.
For many years, the established poker clubs are an open secret among law enforcement officials. The Mayfair Club, for example, occupied an entire basement floor of a luxury hi-rise building in midtown. With the recent crackdowns, however, many of the old established clubs have closed their doors, only be replaced by many smaller clubs in ever harder to find locations.
This growth is inevitable, given that a ten-table card room can generate as much as $35,000 of revenue per night. And with the free advertising from the celebrity-obsessed New York media, filling up the poker tables should be relatively easy.
