ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- The first day of competition at the Borgata Winter Poker Open is underway and similar to the unseasonably warm temperatures outside, a full house of over 1,300 players are feeling the heat at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa for the first event of this inaugural tournament series.Due to the large number of players expected at the Borgata Winter Poker Open events, it is highly recommended that players register ahead of time online at theborgata.com to avoid being locked out and facing long lines.
There is a buzz filling the casino thanks to the fully loaded 2006 Cadillac Escalade that will become the property of one random player who participates in one of the first eight events of the Borgata Winter Poker Open. To give players an even better chance to win the Cadillac Escalade, Borgata will give one entry to each player for every tournament they enter.
In addition to the first Cadillac Escalade being given as a random prize, Borgata has upped the stakes for the $10,000 World Poker Tour main event by throwing a surprise second Cadillac Escalade in the pot. With first-place payout estimated to be over $1 million, Borgata's Winter Poker Open main event champion will drive away with the cash, the car, and a $25,000 seat at the World Poker Tour's World Championship.
While much of the talk may be about the money and cars, Borgata has spent time focusing on the need to give back to the community and has done so by donating a $10,000 seat into the World Poker Tour main event to the winner of a charity tournament put on by Boston Red Sox outfielder, Gabe Kapler. The baseball star runs The Gabe Kapler Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to stopping domestic violence.
According to Kapler, an entry into Borgata's Winter Poker Open main event was the perfect choice for his charity. "When it comes to poker on the East Coast, Borgata is the name that comes to mind. They are the premier gaming venue in Atlantic City and they were kind enough to support our foundation." More information on the charity can be found at Kaplerfoundation.org.
With the cards hitting the tables today, things are only bound to intensify as the buy-ins escalate and more players take their shots at hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money and two sleek yet powerful Cadillac Escalades.

"Our new leaderboards are part of our strategy to continuously create new innovative features on the PokerRoom site and to the game of poker to cater to both the novice and serious player that spend a significant time improving various aspects of their poker game," said Ted Nelson, Director of PokerRoom."
With the new tournament leaderboards, we are challenging poker tournament enthusiasts from all over the world and providing them with a forum to showcase their skills and status."
The PokerRoom Ace of Aces Leaderboard ranks players across twelve scheduled multi-table poker tournaments each month with a $5,000 first prize awarded to the top finisher on the leaderboard. The twelve $150+12 tournaments are standard stand-alone tournaments with the addition of the new scoring system exclusive to the twelve Ace of Aces tournaments.
PokerRoom player participation in the leaderboard is free and automatic, and each month provides players with a new opportunity to win the $5,000 first prize. Lesser buy-in qualifiers are available.
Players that perform exceptionally well will also have the opportunity to win a free trip and entrance into the World Series of Poker with Team PokerRoom.
For PokerRoom players who prefer a fast-paced, intense and instant reward opportunity, the Centurion Cup weekly leaderboard ranks players based on 10-table Sit & Go Tournaments (one hundred players in each) that will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week on PokerRoom.
Similar to the Ace of Aces Leaderboard, each performance in the tournaments will be scored and ranked. The top three ranked players each week will win money from a bonus prize pool generated by a percentage of the fee paid by all entrants into Centurion Cup Tournaments. The top ten players will be invited into a special weekly winner-takes-all Coliseum Sit & Go Final in which the winner will take home the other half of the Bonus Prize Pool. By winning the Centurion Cup Leaderboard and the following Coliseum Final, a player will be crowned the PokerRoom Centurion Champion.
The buy-in for the 10-table Centurion Tournaments will range from $5+0.75 to $20+3. All tournaments are stand-alone events featuring regular payouts.
With the launch of these two new tournament leaderboards and the recently developed Private Tournaments and Team Tournaments, PokerRoom continues to evolve into the leading online destination to play poker for fun, fame and profit.
